All-star catcher Salvador Perez aggravated a left thumb sprain in the Royals' 12-inning win over the Angels on Tuesday night and underwent an MRI earlier this morning.
Salvador Perez Injury Update
The Royals have yet to release the results of the MRI but that will likely come closer to Wednesday's series finale in Anaheim.
Perez appeared to suffer the injury during his final at-bat in the top of the third. After a visit from team trainers the 32-year-old finished the at-bat but grimaced after every swing and eventually struck out.
He was replaced behind the plate by Cam Gallagher, who himself just returned from a lengthy IL stint this week.
Perez suffered the first left thumb sprain on May 17 and spent the minimum stint on the 10-day IL. In 23 games since returning he is batting .218 with a .748 OPS and has five home runs and 18 RBI.
Perez was donning a black brace on his left thumb postgame, according to Kansas City Star's Lynn Worthy, and said he is hopeful that his potential absence will be a short one.
The Royals, 25-42, are last in the AL Central and went 3-7 in the 10 games Perez missed in May.
