MLB 2024: Toronto Blue Jays Spring Training Injury Report

Looking for a repeat visit to the postseason, the Toronto Blue Jays enter spring training with two minor issues on the infield. The biggest issue may be dealing with the loss of Whit Merrifield in free agency.

The Blue Jays went 99-73 last season, good enough for third in the AL East and captured the second wild card spot.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - SIC score 89

The soon to be 25-year-old first baseman missed a handful of games last season with right knee patellar tendinitis but it should not be a major issue this season. Toronto may have to manage his reps in spring training to avoid a flare up, but otherwise expect a fully healthy Vlady Jr. for the start of his sixth season.

Guerrero hit .264 with 26 home runs, 94 RBIs and a .345 on-base percentage last season in 156 games.

Cavan Biggio - SIC score 86

The son of Hall of Fame second baseman Craig Biggio is not doing live hitting on field yet in spring training due to left shoulder tendinitis. Although it’s a surprise he has this ailment entering camp, the team is likely playing it safe by having him avoid live hitting for now. The good news is the issue can be managed and should not affect him in the regular season.

Biggio played in 111 games last season, hitting .235 with a .340 on-base percentage, 9 home runs and 40 RBIs.
