Mets Injury Report: Scherzer Dominant In Return On Tuesday, deGrom Set For Second Rehab Start

Max Scherzer returned to the Mets on Tuesday after missing seven weeks with a significant left oblique strain and posted a six-inning, 11-strikeout performance in 79 pitches.

Max Scherzer Injury Update

The season-high 11 punch-outs over six shutout frames weren't enough as New York lost to the Reds, 1-0.

Scherzer immediately returned to his pre-injury form, as the ProBaseballDocs anticipated after an appropriate rehab timeline.

The May 18th oblique strain that caused the longest absence in Scherzer's career should be fully healed and won't hinder the ace right-hander's performance in the second half.

The 37-year-old will likely be able to expand his pitch limit in the coming starts.

Jacob deGrom Injury Update

After striking out five of six batters in his first rehab start, Jacob deGrom is scheduled to pitch again on Friday, following a five-day schedule.

The multi-time Cy Young winner is projected to return by the end of July, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

The Docs have continued to assert since his March stress reaction that deGrom would take a longer rehab than projected and would likely return after the all-star break.
