The former first round pick will miss the rest of this season and most of the next as he prepares for his second Tommy John surgery of his career. Ross was previously recovering from a torn UCL in his right elbow on top of a surgery to remove bone spurs early this spring.
The Nationals pitcher started the season on the 60-day IL and after three innings of work in his first rehab start, experienced elbow tightness which caused the most recent shutdown. The MRI results showed a signifiant tear and with this being his second TJ surgery, a UCL reconstruction surgery with tendon graphing will mean a longer absence.
The first surgery happen in July of 2017 with a return in the later part of the 2018 season.
Expect this time around to be different as the pitcher will miss the entire 2023 season as the Nationals will not rush him back from his second procedure.
In his last season of work, Ross posted a 5-9 record with a 4.17 ERA in 19 starts.
