Los Angeles Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt was diagnosed with a right mid-foot sprain and will be re-evaluated by team doctors in late February.
Vanderbilt exited the Feb. 1 game against the Celtics after experiencing pain in his right foot when he stepped back to retrieve a steal.
He left the game immediately, limping to the locker room and underwent multiple tests on his foot.
At this point, it would be great news if Vanderbilt could return before the end of the regular season.
He is likely dealing with a Lisfranc sprain with his return timeline depending on the degree of severity. Surgery would mean the end of his regular season and it’s possible the team is waiting to see whether the injury can improve to the point of avoiding surgery this season.
In 29 games this season, Vanderbilt is averaging 5.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists on 51.8% shooting from the field, 29.6% from 3-point range and 66.7% from the free throw line.
The Lakers (27-25) sit in ninth place in the Western Conference with 30 games remaining.
