LeBron James made his triumphant return Sunday against the Chicago Bulls. James played 30 minutes in his debut after tearing a tendon in his right foot on Feb. 26.
James revealed after the game that two doctors recommended season-ending surgery on his right foot, but he went to the “LeBron James” of feet and is now back in under four weeks.
According to our Pro Football Docs, James’ ramp-up will be slow because he can’t rush the healing of his foot. It will be hard for him to play 40 minutes before the playoffs.
James had 19 points, eight rebounds, and three assists in his return from injury. He seemed to be playing well in his burst minutes. For the rest of the season, it is unlikely that James will play back-to-backs because he needs to rest his foot. Luckily for the Lakers, their next three games all come with a day break in between. On Wednesday, the team will seek revenge against the Bulls after they upset the Lakers in James’ return.
James has played 48 games this year for the Lakers, which is currently the second-fewest games played in a season of his career. Since joining the Lakers, the only season he played over 65 games was the 2019-20 season, and the team won an NBA championship that year.
This year in 48 games, James is averaging 29.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists with a 58.4 TS%.
The Lakers are currently the ninth seed in the West with a 37-38 record. The team is 1.5 games back from the sixth seed, which would get them out of the NBA’s play-in game.
Look for the Lakers to push hard to make the playoffs.
