Houston Astros starter Jake Odorizzi left Fenway Park Monday night on crutches, but the latest info from the team refers to the injury as lower left leg discomfort.
Odorizzi caught the attention of the baseball world for all the wrong reasons when he collapsed while running off the mound to cover first base.
Based on multiple video angles, the Pro Baseball Docs have a strong belief that Odorizzi suffered a torn left Achilles tendon on the play.
The videos and the fact that Odorizzi left the stadium in a boot and on crutches are strong indications that his season is done.
He is reportedly headed for an MRI today to assess the injury. The Pro Baseball Docs expect that MRI to confirm the Achilles tendon rupture.
Once confirmed, the 32-year-old will undergo surgery and have a chance to return around the start of next season.
Odorizzi was off to a hot start for the Astros, with a 3-2 record and an ERA of 3.13 across 7 starts. After two down years in 2021 and 2020, Odorizzi looked to be regaining his Tampa Bay Ray form before the injury.
Astros manager Dusty Baker hinted that Seth Martinez may be called up from the taxi squad to help the team's pitching depth.
Astros World Series Odds
At 23-13, the Astros are at -210 to win the AL West and +900 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
