Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart is listed as questionable ahead of Tuesday's Game 1 with a mid-foot sprain he suffered in the Game 7 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
Marcus Smart Injury Update
The former Oklahoma State point guard exited Sunday's Game 7 blowout win with 2:03 left in the game, but it's not immediately clear when he suffered the foot sprain.
It's possible he was injured when he took a hard fall in the first half after his legs were undercut by a driving Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Smart underwent an MRI on his injured right foot that reportedly came back clean, with no indication of a fracture.
Head coach Ime Udoka told reporters Monday that Smart's sprain is “pretty tender and sore,” but said the point guard will get “round the clock treatment” ahead of Game 1.
Robert Williams III Injury Update
The Celtics' big man was available off the bench in Game 7, but didn't see the floor in the blow out.
Udoka said Williams didn't play because he didn't want to shift his rotation.
Williams will not have a minutes restriction in Game 1, according to Udoka.
The 24-year-old has not played since suffering a left knee bone bruise in Game 3. He is also recovering from the lateral meniscus trim surgery he underwent on March 30.
The Pro Basketball Docs expect him to have limited mobility on the defensive end, possibly until late in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Celtics vs Heat Game 1 Odds
Boston is a 1.5-point underdog on the road in Game 1 and the over/under is 204, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The Celtics are -175 to win the series, with the Heat at +145.
