The Grizzlies upgraded star point guard Ja Morant to questionable for Saturday's game against the Pelicans, leaving the door open for a regular season return.Head coach Taylor Jenkins said on Thursday that Morant had a chance to return this weekend after participating in 5-on-5 at practice and that he hoped to get the entire rotation back at least once before the playoffs.Morant, 22, hasn't played since suffering a right knee injury on March 18, missing 9 games after landing awkwardly on his right leg on a layup in the 3rd quarter of the loss to the Hawks. The Grizzlies described the ailment as “soreness” after suffering a tweak to his knee, and he was always expected to return for the playoffs. The all-star was re-evaluated on Thursday, 2 weeks after his last MRI, and it appears the tests showed little remaining damage and improvement in the high-flying guard's knee. The Grizzlies, 55-25, have locked in the No. 2 seed in the West and will play the Pelicans and Celtics this weekend as a tune-up for their playoff run.Despite their success, the Grizzlies have only played 9 games this season with their expected starting lineup of Morant, Desmond Bane, Dillon Brooks, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Steven Adams as Morant and Brooks have each dealt with multiple injuries.Morant is averaging 27.6 points per game with 5.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 56 games this season and is expected to be voted into an All-NBA team at season's end. Memphis went 7-2 without him and are 20-3 overall without Morant this season, 2 of the 3 losses coming in the last 2 contests against the Jazz and Nuggets.
