The Warriors officially announced that Draymond Green will return from a 30-game absence on Monday against the Wizards.Green last played for Golden State on Jan. 9, but last played a full game on Jan. 5 as he has nursed a herniated disc in his lower back that was causing pain and weakness in his calf.Green’s return was pushed back multiple times as he attempted to get back into shape to “dominate” in his return at the same level as the 1st half of the season. The four-time All-Star will take the court with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, who have not played a full game together since Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals. The ProBasketballDocs have said since the beginning that a return this year does not guarantee Green will be back to his previously dominant standards as a unique pseudo-center that can anchor a top defensive unit.He will have to manage his workload, and still runs the risk of needing surgery to correct the issue.Green was the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year while helping the Warriors to a 28-6 record in the games he played. The 32-year-old was averaging 7.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and a team-high 7.4 assists while anchoring the league’s bets defense, doing so without Thompson and James Wiseman and with Andre Iguodala in-and-out of the lineup.Golden State has managed to tread water without him, going 17-13 in his absence that has included a 9-game winning streak bookended by a 2-4 stretch and a 2-7 stretch. The Warriors were 29-9 on Jan. 6, have dropped to 46-22 while fighting with the upstart Grizzlies for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.Rookies Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, both 19, have seen a major uptick in minutes and production in the last stretch of games, and will figure to still be a big piece of the rotation in the final 14 games of the regular season and the playoffs.James Wiseman, who played two games for the Santa Cruz Warriors as the final stage of his rehab process, is awaiting his season debut after recovering from a torn meniscus in April 2021.
