Astros On The ILStarting second baseman Jose Altuve and closer Ryan Pressley are each on the 10-day IL as week three of the season begins. Pressly hasn't played since April 14 with right knee inflammation, and will remain on the list past the 10-day marker. He is expected to face hitters this week to see if his fastball velocity has increased back to its normal mid-90s speed. Altuve, meanwhile, left last Monday's game with a hamstring injury that the ProBaseballDocs anticipate will leave him out for a several weeks. He's eligible to return from the IL on April 28, but is unlikely to return to the lineup this month.White Sox Outfielders On The MendLeftfielder Eloy Jiménez was carted off of Saturday's game after suffering a significant hamstring strain. He was placed on the 10-day IL, but will be out for much longer and could end up on the 60-day, the Docs say, depending on further tests and how he responds to treatment.Star centerfielder Luis Robert, meanwhile, hasn't played since injuring his groin running out a grounder in the eighth inning on April 21. He has yet to go on the IL, and Tony La Russa said his MRI came back clean and he is hopeful Robert will be able to go on Tuesday.Luis Urías Beginning Rehab AssignmentBrewers' star infielder Luis Urías hasn't played this season as he recovers from a March 19 left quad strain. The 24-year-old will head to Biloxi to begin a AA rehab assignment and could return as soon as later this week, according to reports. Josh Bell Pulled Again For Hamstring TightnessThe Nationals had to remove star first baseman Josh Bell early in games twice this week, once for knee tightness and once for hamstring tightness, although his MRI came back clean in both instances. The 29-year-old left Saturday's game with right hamstring tightness and wasn't in the lineup against the Giants on Sunday, although Dave Martinez said he would be available as a pinch-hitter. The Nationals have a day off Monday and we will likely see whether Bell will return soon or be placed on the IL out of the off-day.Hamstring and Oblique Injuries Continue To Pile UpAs the Docs cautioned when the lockout ended there have been an uncommon rash of soft-tissue injuries to begin the season, specifically hamstring and oblique strains, because of the shortened spring training. Two players, Steven Duggar and Luis Patiño, have been placed on the 60-day IL with serious oblique strains, while many others are still working back from early-season injuries, including Teoscar Hernandez, Danny Jansen, JT Chargois, Jordan Luplow, and Josh Rojas. That list doesn’t include the players still out after spring training soft-tissue ailments such as Yoan Moncada and Urías. Altuve, Jimenez, Jonathan India, and Sonny Gray are each on IL after hamstring strains they suffered running to first base or following through pitching, while J.D. Martinez, Robert, Ryan Yarborough, Alex Cobb, and Kevin Newman each remain out with groin injuries.
